People Search Engines: They Know Your Dark Secrets
As it is something to worry about with all the information people can find out about you, if they do it is only your part. The only things that can be searched up on the internet about you is WHAT YOU POST! so if someone, like in the article, finds out you want an electric nose trimmer, they only know it since you have it typed somewhere on the internet at a site such as myspace or facebook. so its your fault.

In my opinion I think that it is very disturbing yet handy in many ways. It does bother me that people can find info on you but, your the one the puts the information out there so you shouldn't be upset if your able to find something on yourself. But, if you are a former employer and you need to find out about a person that is applying at your job then this would be a good way to do a sort of "Background Check" . So I think that if your using if for something good its okay.
Basically, I think that it is okay to have these search engines around because its your fault if someone finds something out about you that you didn't want them to know because your the one who put that information on the Internet
Biometrics
The article explains the use of biometrics, using fingerprints/hand prints to better a security system, in hospitals. The plan was to discourage staff members on stealing such drugs as narcotics, and selling them on the market. The biometrics work in the same way they do in all those sci-fi star wars-like flicks, by placing your hand/finger on a scanner that in turn reads your unique print. Thus, making it almost impossible to steal drugs without being noticed.
I don't even think it's possible to be against the idea of adding biometrics to hospitals, unless of course you steal drugs on a daily basis. The only downfalls I see are : if the nurses are in a rush for a drug, and the amount of money needed for such technology. Yes, those millions of dollars could be used on research; but, at the same time the hospitals save money by not getting stolen from. On the other hand, if someone were to be in the ER and in desperate need for a drug, they may not have time to wait on the biometric systems; but, according to the article, there is a system over ride tool.

This article clearly states that people can use most search engines to find out a lot about a person. Some such as Pipl and CVGadgets are intended for these specific purposes.
For my brief experience with Pipl I found that it just found my Facebook account and some old Bebo account that I don't remember signing for. For facebook you have to be in my friends list to even see my page so i feel safe there. Personally it didn't seem that bad for me. But on the other hand, these story's I read from this article show you can find out a whole lot more. I agree with the fact that this is wrong in some reasons. Not as strongly as I should, but non the less I do agree. People should not be able to find certain things about you just by typing in your name.
Layoffs leave behind orphaned hardware, unused software licenses

Because of the recession our economy is going through, many computers have been left alone along with their software licenses to collect dust. This is do to companies laying off workers, and without workers, computers can’t be operated.
This article discusses how there is a problem with this because some companies just don’t know what to do with unused IT equipment. They have no quality-control program to handle this and even if they do it might not be the greatest. Sometimes they just destroy a hard drive but don’t remember later on, or get erased hard drives confused with no erased ones. This is a big problem. Along with that, they have no set time to replace hardware and software. Nor do the majority of businesses know how to dispose of hard drives correctly or do so in a guaranteed way. One source states that 40% of hard drives purchased from eBay contained sensitive or personal data that wasn’t erased. This is defiantly a problem. Keating, the vice president at Reclamere Inc, said that 8 out of 10 computers come with hard drives. Those of which probably contain sensitive data.
This article goes into further detail at how to successfully destroy a hard drive or erase data. One of these ways is load free programs designed to shred or destroy information on the hard drive. Another way is to encrypt the hard drive and simply throw away the key. Last but not least, physically rupturing the hard drive platter also works as well.

This article is about Hospitals having problems with employees stealing narcotics, so they set up a system using biometrics. The biometrics identify who's going into a room or opening up something that has narcotics in it.
In my opinion using Biometrics is a smart decisions. Some people may not like the idea of using Biometrics because it cost a whole lot. Hospitals could use the money for finding new drugs to cure illnesses or the money could be used to buy better beds and material used there. But using Biometrics keep the hospital safe and free from break -ins, so int he long tun its a great idea.

I agree with the article, because it is very scary that people can search any information posted about you on the Internet. It just makes it for whoever wants to know everything about you one step easier. Yea you might think that it's stalky and wrong, but the information that they've found is what you've created. If you wouldn't have typed any information about you, than they wouldn't have that oppurtunity to find it. So for the most part, if you run into somebody that can tell you your whole life story, than it's your fault for posting all that nonsense on the Web. Think before you type.
People Search Engines: They Know Your Dark Secrets
With the new era in technology, I can find more information about my peers than I want. Although some may think this is an invasion of privacy, I think it should more widely used as a source to show exactly what we should, and shouldn't put on the web. These so called "People Search Engines" are just taking the information that you yourself have distributed on the internet at one point in time. If you don't want the whole world to know what your favorite movie is, then don't post it! Only you can prevent what the world can and cannot see about your personal life, so "Think Before You Post!"

The article explains how these new search engines get your information. IT also tells us about how far the search engine can search your information. Some examples include Pipl,CvGadget, and Spokeo.
I think these new people search engines should be taken down. The reason is that it is an invasion of privacy and personal information should not be shared on the internet. If they do keep these sites up then you as an individual do not post any of your addreses, phone numbers, the city and state you are in, and importantly your name.

The article informs the reader of the ability to find personal information about any average internet user, using search engines such as Pipl and CVGadgets.
I checked out Pipl as well as CVGadgets and i found a small amount of information about myself. It basically will inform the user that i have a facebook and ive been mentioned in a blog once before. I don't believe that people should be able to look up personal information about me, but from what ive found using these two search engines i really dont see anything worth attempting to hide.

When I found out that all the information about me can be stockpiled and found in one big bundle, I didn't know what to think. The first thing that came to my mind was that it was an invasion of privacy. However, whenever you sign up for something there is always the warning that anything you post may be seen by everyone else in the world.
Someone who wants to know all they can about somebody seems...stalkish. Stuff that you post in the past can come back to haunt you. Not to mention, they could possibly know your exact address, phone number, etc.
The part where people can actually BUY your information deffinently makes me uncomfortable. In my own perspective I believe the person of the information should give consent before sites sell the information, and if people buy the information the person should get some sort of percentage of the money.
All in all, I think the people search engines are a bad idea. Its bad enough that some kids and teenagers give their private information on chat lines. But the fact that people can find them without even knowing them is even worse. Some people may take this too far when it comes to finding 'information' on somebody.
People Search Engines.
In these days, its possible to find out almost everything about you; your music tastes, where you life, what kind of car you drive. So how much can people really find out?
Being an avid user of the interwebs, you should always watch what you post online. With new search engines, such as pipl.com, you can fill in peoples names and basically find anything you want on them that they have posted, which can be a very unfortunate thing if you happen to be a partier applying for a job. I do not believe that any limits should be applied on people search engines; if you don't want people to know certain things of your personal life, then it is your responsibility to not post it online for the rest of the world to see.
If you are an internet user, then you have to have certain responsibilities concerning your personal data, and you should always be aware of the possibility of future employers researching you on the internet. So, be careful with what you make available to the rest of the world.

The summary to this whole article is think before clicking and posting. You never know who'll see information about you online. I don't know if some people realize yet. ANYONE can see information about you online!!! Every day there's new websites coming out where you can find people's information. This also is one way that sex offenders and people who want to steal your identity finds you. Does people just not have common sense anymore? It's getting VERY ridiculous!!! So the last thing I want to advise you, even though I'm guilty of it myself, is to stay OFF of these websites!!! Thank You.

This is ridiculous. There should not be anything available on the internet to where you can look up a persons personal life. But also the fact that the person would put so much about themselves on the internet then they are not smart. It could also be that other people have put stuff about them on the internet. In my opinion this people search engine should not be on the internet or you should only be able to access the people that you know, but there is no way to limit that.

People can use search engines to find people and personal information on the internet. Yes you posted the information but take Mr. Koch for an example. Many of the things he has to post are for school and such, but when you do a pipl search on him it gives you his address and his personal info that shouldn't that easy to access. Most people believe that since they posted it, it's their fault. Just because you wanted a myspace account doesn't mean it should give information about where you live or how you spend your time, that's your business not an employers or the average person.
People Search Engines: They Know Your Dark Secrets
The article talks about search engines tell every detail about you online. He tells about how he learned all these things about his lawyer that he didn’t want to know.
My reaction to this is it violates our privacy. That is why on myspace it asks if you want your profile public or just friends. Now if you want to post you info more powered to you but if I didn’t sign or check anything that gives them the right to post my personal information on the World Wide Web for some guy in china to see it that is just wrong. These sites that allow this such as www.pipl.com is a stalkers best friend. So know if he learns your name and what state you live in he can search your name and get you address and phone number that is just as bad in my mind as someone stealing your identity.

I have to laugh at people who will complain about their public information being out on the internet. The article covers a situation in which a user may put up public information on the internet.
While we can make up metaphors for the internet all do, the easiest thing to do is treat the internet as a new form. That means people need to set aside the notion that, "my public data will only be available to people I know". My simply sending an email you are giving the recipient your IP address; for a resourceful person that would be all they need to find your home address!
The problem is the generation gap online. We, who have grown up with the internet, are not as concerned with our "privacy" because we have grown up with the idea that our data isn't private. Older people who grew up without the public resource of the internet think they somehow own the data, or that they should reserve the right to dictate its distribution, or lack thereof.
If you are truly a paranoid schizophrenic, and are really concerned about your data being online perhaps you should take the time to read the TERMS OF SERVICE on every site. Most sites you give information to make it very clear whether they reserve the right to distribute your data, or if it will remain private.
In the end you will be giving away your data regardless. While it's true you might not be showing your spring break pictures to the world, you are still giving data, perhaps data that is much more valuable than any picture. When you browse Google, Google will track your activity. Google knows more about your browsing habits than you do. Good luck complaining to Google about that though. :)

In my opinion, people search engines are just like anything else on the internet. It’s never really a risk, unless you use it in a negative way. Google Maps for example, I have sat at a computer and looked at my own town and the surrounding areas. No harm done right? The whole terrorist threat ordeal makes people think that internet sites are scary. Sites such as Google Maps, or Pipl were not meant to do any harm. They are only harmful if people use them to be. I don’t see Pipl (or any other people search engine) as being dangerous to the public. If you put the information on the internet, people are bound to find it. All these engines do is compile it all together, and make it easier to find. It always comes down to this… if you don’t want people to see the things you put online, then don’t put stuff on there.
People Search Engines: They Know Your Dark Secrets (Summary)
In this article, it talks about the new advances in search engines. Now days, you are able to find anything a person has posted on a forum, blog, or just anywhere on the internet. No matter if it was yesterday or 3 years ago.
People Search Engines: They Know Your Dark Secrets
In my opinion, if you post something on the internet without knowin' the policies of the internet websites, and you end up cryin' about random people seeing your information on the internet, that's tough luck. In most user agreement policies on the internet, it clearly states that once you post something on a website, such as Facebook, it's there, and it will continue to remain there for as long as the website remains functional. In the end... It all boils down to common sense, and the age old adage that states, "Think before you click."

I think that the progams that they are coming out with, which allows you to look at other peoples search history is wrong! But I also beilive that if you dont want people to know something about you. Then dont put it anywhere on the web. There is no such thing as privacy on the web. So if you dont want something known about you. Then you shouldnt even type it anywhere on the web. Personally I think that the programs that are allowing people to look at others search history is where the problem is! I also dont think that it should be legal to download that program because thats an invasion of another persons privacy!
People Search Engines: They Know Your Dark Secrets
The article talked about search engines on the internet that can be used to find data and personal information about a certain person online. It also talked about both the pros and the cons of these search engines.
Personally I don't like the idea that someone could find all sorts of information on me especially info all throughout my life. Although these people search engines can be helpful in some businesses for things like back group checks I don't like the idea of someone being able to get online and for paying a monthly fee find everything there is to know about somebody else. But I also see this as a wake up call to watch and double check the things I put on the internet. Some people do need to stop and think twice about if they what people to see that personal information or not before you post anything on the internet.
